Arcs of Consciousness
The colors of the spirals are based on the 7 major chakras, the
loci of life energy. White here represents Universal Consciousness.
It is fragmented in the form of spirals erupting from the white
sphere. The red spiral (color of the first chakra) circling out
from under the lion cub represents instinct, the primitive energy
of vitality, survival and regeneration. The blue spiral (color of
the fifth chakra) of the young monk marks the beginning of a search
for self-expression, creativity and connection with the spiritual.
Krishnamurti floating on a purple arc (color of the seventh chakra),
signifies the self's attempt to reconnect with Universal Consciousness.
The spiral above Krishnamurti represents all the seekers of Universal
Consciousness.
The eyes of the lion cub and the young monk, looking outwards, indicate
their growing awareness of their surroundings. In contrast, Krishnamurti's
eyes suggest his deep internal awareness.
The spirals are ever expanding. They symbolize Universal Consciousness
seeking new experiences through its fragmented self.
Like the Zen paintings (zenkiga, 禪機画) with monks painted with eyes
rolling upward to indicate enlightenment, Krishnamurti in the 2020
painting is looking up in an austere manner.
In the 2022 painting, Krishnamurti is looking out kindly; his aura
separates him from the arcing path, making him appear more forward
than the little monk and the lion cub. The arcs are modified to
look like they are sweeping forward.
