Bay: A Glimpse of Stillness between Heaven and Earth
If one stares at the horizon long enough one could slip into a space
that is neither earth nor sky. Can it be called infinity? Or another
dimension? Eckhard Tolle (author of The Power of Now) refers to it
as "a different kind of knowing in the timeless dimension."
The Chinese define it as part of the interconnected reality between
Heaven and Earth. They look to Heaven (Tian) for knowledge of the
celestial movements and to Earth (Di) for laws governing the physical
world. If we can understand that which governs the natural world,
we would be able to establish harmony in our world and within ourselves,
and become an integral part of Nature (Earth) and the Cosmos (Heaven).
These 20 paintings, reflecting the ebb and flow of the sea, attempt
to draw attention to this ineffable reality between Heaven and Earth
−− the ever-present horizon. Regardless of the changing sky and the
differing qualities of light, it is where Heaven and Earth meet.
Only 4 colors, together with white, were used to create these 20 different
scenes: Holbein's hydrangea (phythlo) blue, cadmium red, cadmium yellow
light, and cadmium yellow lemon.
This project represents one person's impressions of Morecambe Bay.
Whether or not they capture the stillness between Heaven and Earth,

モーカム湾：天と地のはざまに現れる静寂の瞬間
地平線をじっと見つめていると、人はいつしか天でも地でもない空間にまぎれ込んでしまう。それを無限と呼ぶべきだろうか、あるいは異次元と呼ぶべきだろうか。エックハルト・トール（『さとりをひらくと人生はシンプルで楽になる』の著者）はそれを「時間を超えた次元での認識の仕方」と呼んでいる。
中国の人々はそれを天と地の相関的現実の一部と定義づける。彼らは天体の動きを知るために天を観察し、物質的世界を支配する法則を知るために地を観察する。自然界を支配するものを理解することができれば、私たちは世界のなかにも、私たちの間にも、調和を確立できるようになるだろうし、自然界（地）と宇宙（天）を構成する部分となることができるだろう。
潮の満ち引きを描いたこれら20枚の絵画は、天と地の間のえも言われぬ現実ーー永遠の地平線へと関心を向かわせるための試みである。空がいかに変化しようとも、光の質がいかに変わろうとも、天と地はそこで出会うのである。
20種類の異なる風景を描くのに使った色は4種類だけで、それらを白と合わせて用いた。ホルバインの紫陽花の青、カドミウム赤、カドミウム黄ライト、カドミウムレモン黄色である。
当シリーズは、一個人が見たモーカム湾の印象を描いたものである。天と地の間の静寂を捉えられているかどうかわからないが、ぜひご覧いただきたい。
