Malayan Tapir
38.0 x 45.5 cm. (14.9 x 17.9in.)

The Malayan tapir, or Asian tapir, is the largest of the five tapir species, and the only tapir native to Asia. It has poor eyesight but excellent hearing and smell. A light-colored patch extends from shoulder to rear end. The tips of its ears are trimmed in white. It has 4 toes on the front feet but 3 on the back feet. Danger of extinction comes from deforestation, flooding from dammed rivers, illegal trade, and hunting by humans for sport. Muslims do not eat tapir because of its resemblance to a pig.

North American Nebula (NGC 7000) resembles the western coast of Mexico. The colors red, green, and blue represent emissions of sulfur, hydrogen and oxygen. Gas and dust are sculpted by energetic radiation from young hot massive stars. The dark shapes possibly hide stars in formation.
