Giant Panda

The Chinese call the Giant Panda the “big bear cat”. It is native to S Central China, mainly in the Sechuan province. About 99% of its diet is bamboo. It is being driven out of its environment by farming, deforestation, and other development. Currently it is classified as endangered. Though the population is increasing, the number is insufficient for it to be reclassified as vulnerable.

NGC 1763 is part of the N11 emission galaxy, which resides in the Large Magellanic Clouds (LMC). It contains massive stars generating abrasive winds, mountains of dust, and energetic light. The compact globules of dark dust house emerging young stars.
