Rothchild's Giraffe
38.0 x 45.5 cm. (14.9 x 17.9in.)

The Rothschild’s giraffe is one of 9 subspecies in Africa. Its distinguishing marks are dark irregular patches with complete margins. Spotting does not often reach below the hocks and never to the hooves, giving it a white stocking appearance. It may develop 5 horns. Driven from the savannah, grasslands and open woodlands of Kenya and Uganda, only a few small isolated populations survive. With an estimated 1671 individuals in the wild, it is one of the most endangered giraffes.

Rapid molecular acquision of oxygen gives an appearance of fire in the emission nebula, Flaming Star Nebula (IC 405). Its smoky appearance is due to interstellar hydrogen and carbon-rich dust grains, while the blue appearance is due to the heat intensity of the bright star, AE Auriga.
