St.
Nicholas Cole
It
was destroyed by the Great Fire of London, rebuilt by the office of
Sir Christopher Wren, substantially damaged in the London Blitz of
WWII, and restored in 1962. Named after St. Nicholas of Myra, it was
also known as “Cole Abbey” for sheltering travelers from
the cold.
St Nicholas, patron saint of fishermen, sailors, merchants, archers,
thieves, children and students, had a reputation for secret gift-giving. |
