St. Martin in the Fields

Earliest reference dates this church from 1222. When it was rebuilt by Henry VII in 1542, it was literally “in the fields” between the cities of London and Westminster.

Martin of Tours, son of a veteran officer, joined the calvary at 15. He experienced a vision at the Samarobriva after he gave half of his cloak to a beggar. Confirmed of his piety, he was baptized at the age of 18.
