St.
Mary le Bow
A
church has always existed on this site since the Saxon period; one
was destroyed by a tornado in the late 11th c., another burned down
in the Great Fire of London(1666), then rebuilt (1680) to Sir Christopher
Wren's design. It was destroyed during the London Blitz and restored
in 1956. The Bow Bells were used as an interval signal by the BBC
since the early 1940s. |
