St. Bartholomew, the Greater

Established in 1123 by Rahere, who upon recovering from fever dedicated this church to St. Bartholomew. It escaped the Great Fire of London and is one of the relatively few City churches to escape damage in WWII.

Bartholomew, usually identified as Nathaniel, was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. He was flayed alive and crucifed, head downward.
