Hallows by the Tower
This
church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was established in 675
by Saxon Abbey and badly damaged by an explosion in 1650. It narrowly
escaped the Great Fire of London (1666), was restored in the late
19th c, gutted by German bombers during the London Blitz of WWII,
and rededicated in 1957.
